My newest series of illustrations Women Are Like Trees and Women of the Earth both represent the strong connection between women and nature. So what truly inspires my work?

TRAVELING AND ADULTING
I have had the amazing opportunity to travel around Europe, New Zealand and the U.S in the past few years. From the fjords of Norway to the mountains of Switzerland, from the coasts of Portugal to the beaches and rock formations of Greece, I was constantly in awe of our Earth's natural beauties. It may seem obvious that my inspiration comes from the Earth. That is true, however, my inspiration also comes from women and the way they connect with our Earth. It all started with a drawing of a tree. The form I created reminded me of a woman's body. I then created a short series with 8 inked illustrations. Once those were completed, I new I couldn't stop there. The start of this collection of tree women illustrations led to my first self-published book of watercolors, Women Are Like Trees. As I went through art school and continued down the path to what we may call "adulting," I started to notice changes in my own body, mind and spirit.
BEING A WOMAN
Growing up we are given the perception of what a woman is supposed to look like, but that representation doesn't portray even the slightest percentage of women on this Earth. We were trapped in this specific definition of beauty. My series of illustrations is meant to push past this poor representation. It is amazing to see other artists do this too. Women, like our Earth, are beautiful in so many different ways. No matter our shape, color or culture, we deserve to be represented the way that we are. It is important for me to continue pushes myself to represent all women. The most fulfilling aspect of my work is when a woman reaches out to me and tells me that they resonate with a specific illustration of mine.
I look forward to sharing more of my artist journey with you all!
